There are few things more jaw-dropping than a first look at the Grand Canyon.  My friend used to lead first time visitors to the railing with their eyes closed to hear their “whoop” when they first saw it.  At 18 miles wide, 277 miles long and 6000 feet at its deepest, the Grand Canyon is impossible to fathom without experiencing it firsthand.  The Colorado River took 6 million years to carve through the billion year old colorful layers of sedimentary rock.  Hikes on the rim are breathtaking (especially at sunset), but go below the rim to truly experience nature’s power.

The nine-day Grand Canyon itinerary includes the most memorable hikes on and below the rim, with turnaround points to match everyone’s comfort levels.  You will explore both the South Rim and the less populated North Rim.  The trip also includes time experiencing the wind-swept walls of Antelope Canyon and boating on Lake Powell.  Three optional below-the-rim camping extensions and alternate trips include details on a rim-to-rim hike, a visit to Havasu Falls and class 5 white water rafting trip options.

Travel tips include airport, lodging and camping information, as well as links to current conditions and travel alerts.  The “Short on Time?  Don’t Miss” section identifies three days that are highlights.  Trip extensions listed include additional hiking options, and the alternate trips and add-ons described above.

Note that due to the parks' close proximities, if you purchase both the Grand Canyon and Zion/Bryce Canyon Itineraries, you can get a free itinerary combining both parks into a two week trip.

New:  Looking for a shorter introductory overview itinerary?  A new 3 day in-park itinerary is now also included in this Guide.
