The rugged national parks of Alaska are a whole other level.  The mountains are massive, the glaciers are ever present, and the bays are teeming with wildlife.  Denali is home to the largest mountain in North America.  Spot moose, caribou, wolves and brown bears wandering the tundra at the base of spectacular mountain ranges.  Explore the glaciers of Kenai Fjords and listen to the thunder of tidewater glaciers as they calve icebergs the size of buildings into Prince William Sound.  A visit to Alaska will change you forever.

The nine-day Central Alaska itinerary starts with a hike in Denali National Park.  You will then explore the 92mi scenic road heading into the park’s backcountry, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife.  Get up close and personal with a glacier on a hike in Kenai Fjords.  You will also spend two days on water at Kenai Fjords and Prince William Sound taking in the beautiful coastal mountain landscape while looking for whales.  And you’ll have a day river rafting through the Alaskan wilderness.

Travel tips include airport, lodging and camping information, as well as links to current conditions and travel alerts.  The “Short on Time?  Don’t Miss” section identifies three days that are highlights.  Trip extensions listed include several additional hiking options.  Also included is a 12 day itinerary that adds Wrangell St Elias National Park and a deeper exploration of Prince William Sound to the trip.

New:  Looking for a shorter introductory overview itinerary?  A new 4 day in-park itinerary is now also included in this Guide.

[Note:  Due to the dispersed geography of these locations, trying to see them in 3 days is not recommended.]
